A Community Landmark Reimagined: Modoc County Park

The historic Southern Pacific steam locomotive on site, built in the early 1900s, once played a vital role in connecting rural Northern California to the rest of the region.
The revitalization of Modoc County Park thoughtfully brings that legacy forward. This project combines historic preservation, quality craftsmanship, and nature-based play to create a space designed for long-term community use.
Park Planet provided a custom heavy timber train shelter from Cedar Forest Products, designed to protect and showcase the historic Southern Pacific steam locomotive. Durable materials and thoughtful detailing ensure the structure will serve the park for years to come.
The new play area features natural playground equipment from Duncan & Grove. The design encourages creativity, movement, and exploration. Organic climbing elements, slides, and vertical features blend naturally into the surrounding landscape and support open-ended play.
